During my teens, I have not had a chance to get any qualifications. I had family responsibilities, due to which I have not been working for 16 years. I have been signing on and in May 2008, I decided to try my best to look for a job. Earlier during the year, I had been randomly searching for jobs but I had realized that my skills were pretty much outdated. I felt that my confidence was low due to the long gap in my skills and work experience. When I went to the Job Centre Plus one day, I was referred to I Can Do It to get Literacy, Numeracy and ICT courses in order to get qualifications.
I went to visit the centre to enquire about Literacy courses and I was impressed with the friendly atmosphere. There were people to help me with my enquiries. They gave me options that would help me attain my long term aim to get a job as receptionist or administrative officer. I was enrolled on English courses first and within six weeks, I had already achieved Literacy Level 1 and 2 qualifications. My tutors were really supportive and encouraging. I could not do this without their support.
I was very motivated to get the qualifications that I missed out before, so I decided to enroll for Numeracy course as well. I completed my Numeracy Level 1 qualification and decided to enroll for a computer course. My tutor advised me to enroll for ECDL Part 1 course as it would benefit me for my job prospects. I am now currently doing my ECDL Part 1 course.
I recently got a job as receptionist at a surgery in Ilford and I feel that my lifestyle has changed a lot. I can now be independent financially, I have got my qualifications and I am also confident at work with IT. The tricks that I have learnt in IT at Learndirect is really helping me a lot at work and I am grateful for having the opportunity to be doing courses at Learndirect, I Can Do It.
